Q switch Laser

Laser tattoo removal has been a clinically proven technique to remove tattoos. Q-switched laser is one a kind technology wherein ink is shattered through ultra-short pulses of light energy. Nd: YAG laser with two different wavelengths are most popular (532 nm, 1064 nm) for tattoo removal.

  • Laser with wavelength of 1064 nm is used to remove black tattoos
  • For coloured tattoos 532 nm of wavelength is used

Q-switch lasers create beam pulses that last for a billionth of a second, these powerful pulses can shatter pigments of the ink or pigmentation, as the pulse lasts for a shorter duration, and it does not affect the surrounding areas. We, at Care Well Medical Center use the best equipment for permanent tattoo removal. Q-switched lasers can remove light and dark ink tattoos from the skin and it can be used on small and large tattoos.

The procedure

The laser is focused on the tattooed area, wherein the light is absorbed by the ink particles in the dermis leaving the surrounding skin safe and untouched. This light is absorbed and breaks the ink particles as light is converted into heat energy. The shattered ink is removed by the body after a few days. We use Q-switched Nd: YAG lasers that operate at 2 frequencies (532 nm, 1064 nm). For tattoos with black ink, we generally use Nd: YAG lasers operating at 1064 nm and for colored tattoos, lasers at 532 nm wavelength is used.

R 20 Technique

Care Well Medical Center uses the R20 technique to remove tattoos, wherein the “20” stands for 20 minutes, it does a single pass or session for every 20 minutes for four sessions. A 20 minute wait period is required between sessions as there is a formation of nitrogen bubbles on the top layer of the skin and tattoo. It take 8-10 sessions for large tattoos, which could easily take 8-10 months or even a year for complete removal.

This laser does not harm the surrounding skin as short intense light pulses pass through the upper layers of the skin and get absorbed by the tattoo. Black ink is the easiest to remove as it can absorb light of all the wavelengths, tattoos with bright colors and fluorescent ink are very hard to remove.

A mild burning sensation can be felt during the tattoo removal process, after the session, the surgeon or dermatologist apply anti-bacterial ointment and dressing.

Benefits of the Procedure

  • Completely non-surgical procedure
  • No pain

Shortcomings of Q-switch Lasers are:

  • Multiple sessions are required for complete removal
  • It is Time Consuming
  • Ghost Image or residual pigmentation remains there

Post Procedure Care

Patients can observe redness after the treatment, but it would fade away quickly. Sunlight and skin products should be avoided. Vaseline or Petroleum jelly can be applied for a few days to weeks. It is also advised to keep the wound wrapped in bandages. Treat your skin very gently, the scars shall fade in due time. Application of ointment needs to be carried out on the recommendation of the physician.

Co2 Fractional Lasers

CO2 Fractional lasers are also called as pixilated lasers, and they are state-of-the-art-technology in non-surgical skin rejuvenation techniques. This laser has the longest wavelength and is used on dark skin types.

How does it work?

A fractional laser penetrates deep inside the body by pixilation or division into multiple shafts of light. It repairs the old skin by vaporizing the old skin and replacing it with new skin, as well as by shrinking the collagen. Some immediate results can be observed but substantial results can be observed after 4 – 6 months. This procedure is completely Non-Surgical and painless.
